My condolences to the family of the little one who got hit by train today in Calgary, I truly feel for the family; especially the grandpa who was accompanying the 5 year old.
Heres the link to the story:
This brings up an important issue, should the LRT platforms in calgary or even of other the train systems in Canada undergo security enhacements? Lets face it that “stand back of yellow line” may be there for obvious reasons but a few little kids playing around wouldn’t give a damn. What if they decide to walk close to the edge and end up slipping over. Did the ”stand back of yellow line” sign catch them? No of course not, so any improvment ideas? We could have doors on the platforms that only open when the train doors are, which is the case in many places around the world, and its seems like the best option. I’m sure the City and Calgary Transit could put forward some excellent ideas but that’s only if they take this tragic event today seriously otherwise we’ll need a few more for any action to be taken.
